|
One of the state's largest middle schools In Nashua NH got a major makeover Friday,
when nearly 200 volunteers helped spruce up the building for the start
of the new school year.
Elm Street Middle School in Nashua NH is one of 10
schools throughout the nation to participate in Fidelity Investments'
national partnership with Boston Cares, a HandsOn Network local action
center. The program is designed to help revitalize learning environments
for middle school students.
Volunteers from Fidelity
Investments' Merrimack NH regional center and Fidelity's Nashua NH investment center
helped with Friday's transformation day, in addition to several local
students and teachers.
The group took over the school's
classrooms and hallways, providing a fresh coat of paint, murals and
inspirational messages throughout the building. Work was done to the
outside of the facility as well, as flower beds were built and the
courtyards were refurbished.
This is the second year in a row that workers from Fidelity Investments, Nashua and Merrimack, visited the city school to make needed improvements.
In
addition to all of the work throughout the school, the company also
donated several rolls of paper, 30 personal computers and 15 laptops to
the Title I school.
This fall, Fidelity Investments
also plans to donate bookcases and teacher desks to the school. New
furniture for the conference room and teacher's lounge has already been
delivered.
School banners and three murals were
being placed throughout the school, some of them developed by students
from the New Hampshire Institute of Art.
